Agartala: A senior BJP leader on Tuesday accused the ruling ally Tipra Motha Party of spreading false information by claiming that she had quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and formally joined Tipra Motha, using photographs and videos circulated on social media to support the claim.
The leader, identified as Radhamala Debbarma, strongly refuted the allegations and clarified that she continues to remain with the BJP. Addressing a press conference, she said her presence at a public meeting organised by the Tipra Motha Party was being deliberately misrepresented.
“I went to the meeting venue only to meet Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman. I was informed that Maharaj was looking for me. Despite political differences, he is a highly respected figure for all of us. On the request of Tipra Motha workers, I went to meet him,” Radhamala Debbarma said.
She added that the public meeting was held at Demdum village, very close to her residence. “As soon as I reached the venue, Tipra Motha workers started announcing that I had formally joined their party, which is completely false. I never made any such decision, nor did I resign from the BJP,” she asserted.
Speaking at the same press conference, BJP state General Secretary Bipin Debbarma also dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated. He said it is a matter of common courtesy to greet a senior leader when a public meeting is held near one’s home. “Radhamala Debbarma went there only out of courtesy, not to join Tipra Motha,” he said.
Bipin Debbarma alleged that Tipra Motha leader Dhirendra Debbarma deliberately misrepresented the incident. “Her presence was twisted to create a false narrative. In the videos and photographs being circulated, she is not seen holding any Tipra Motha party flag. Instead, Tipra Motha workers stood behind her with party flags to mislead viewers,” he claimed.
The BJP leaders demanded that Tipra Motha stop spreading misinformation and issue a clarification, stating that Radhamala Debbarma remains a committed member of the BJP.
