Agartala, January 3:
Police of Baikhora police station under South Tripura district arrested a 36-year-old man on Friday late night in connection with an alleged rape of a minor girl in the Jolaibari area under its jurisdiction.
According to Officer-in-Charge of Baikhora police station, Bishnu Chandra Das, at around 10.30 pm on Friday, a complaint was lodged at Baikhora police station alleging that a minor girl from Jolaibari had been raped. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police conducted a preliminary inquiry and found the allegations to be prima facie true. Within a short span of time, a raid was carried out and the accused was arrested.
The arrested person has been identified as Bikash Nama (36), a resident of West Jolaibari.
He is reportedly employed at the Jolaibari Community Health Centre and is married with one child.
Officer-in-Charge Das, added that a case has been registered as Case No. 1 under Sections 65(1) and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
He added that the minor girl has been sent for medical examination.
Police sources further revealed that the victim is reportedly around two months pregnant. The accused is currently in police custody and is being interrogated in connection with the case.
The police informed that the accused will be produced before the Belonia District and Sessions Court on Saturday for further legal proceedings.
