Agartala, Sep 12 — The College of Agriculture, Tripura (CAT) celebrated its 19th Foundation Day on Friday at the college auditorium, marked by inspiring addresses, felicitations, and cultural performances.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Vice Chancellor of TIUT; Dr. Subhadip Paul, Chairman of TBJEE; Shri Anil S. Kotmire, GM of NABARD Tripura Regional Office; and Dr. Lopamudra Sahoo, Principal Scientist, ICAR-Tripura Centre.
In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Debashish Sen, Principal of CAT, highlighted the achievements and aspirations of the institution. Prof. Saha, recalling CAT’s transformation from an Upgraded Training Center (UGTC) in 2007, praised Lembucherra’s growth into an educational hub.
Shri Kotmire lauded CAT’s extension activities with NABARD and urged students to explore agricultural entrepreneurship, citing challenges posed by climate change and shifting monsoon patterns. Dr. Paul congratulated students for choosing CAT, noting its popularity during TBJEE counseling. Dr. Sahoo encouraged students to cultivate curiosity and pursue diverse career opportunities in agriculture.
As part of the ceremony, toppers of the 2024–25 academic session were felicitated: Shri Bobilan Debbarma (M.Sc. Agronomy), Shri Justin Debbarma (M.Sc. Horticulture – Floriculture & Landscaping), and Miss Priya Malakar (B.Sc. Hons. Agriculture). The dignitaries also released the CAT Newsletter and honored retired staff for their dedicated service.
Earlier in the day, the NSS unit organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with the Tripura State Blood Transfusion Council, inaugurated by Principal Sen. Around 30 donors, including students, faculty, and staff, participated.
The celebrations concluded with vibrant student cultural performances and a vote of thanks by Shri Kamal Tripura, Organizing Secretary. The programme ended with the National Anthem, reaffirming CAT’s commitment to building human resources for food and nutritional security in Tripura.
