Agartala, August 11:Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, who remains in critical condition following emergency brain surgery, was flown to Bengaluru on Monday afternoon in an air ambulance for advanced medical treatment.
Mr. Sen, 72, sustained severe head injuries after a fall in the lavatory of Agartala Railway Station on Friday evening, just before he was scheduled to travel to his home constituency in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.
He was first admitted to Tripura Medical College and Hospital, where doctors confirmed a brain haemorrhage and recommended urgent surgery.
Following his family’s request, the Speaker was shifted to a private hospital in Agartala late Friday night. Hospital sources said surgeons successfully removed blood clots from four spots in his brain, but his condition remains critical, and he is under close observation.
The decision to transfer him to Bengaluru was made to facilitate specialized care during the crucial post-operative period.
A seasoned politician and theatre performer, Biswa Bandhu Sen has been elected to the Tripura Legislative Assembly four times. He spent much of his political career with the Congress before joining the BJP ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.
