The internal rift within Tripura’s ruling NDA alliance deepened further as a delegation from the BJP tribal wing, Janajati Morcha, on Wednesday visited the site of a recent violent clash in Khowai district, allegedly triggered by Tipra Motha workers during the broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, and warned that such kind of violence will not be tolerated.
The BJP delegation, which included Minister Santana Chakma, MLA Rampada Jamatia, former MP Rebati Tripura, BJP state general secretary Bipin Debbarma, several MDCs, and party functionaries, initially met with local residents in Asharambari and later held a meeting with Khowai Superintendent of Police Ranaditya Das.
The delegation submitted detailed information about the incident and demanded strict action against the accused.
The BJP leaders condemned the attack, terming it “completely undemocratic and highly condemnable.”
They accused Tipra Motha supporters of trying to disrupt a peaceful event organized to listen to the Prime Minister’s monthly address.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Santana Chakma warned that BJP is the “world’s largest political organization,” would not always tolerate such “shameless and heinous acts.”
Former Minister and MLA Rampada Jamatia strongly alleged that the attack was orchestrated by followers of Minister Animesh Debbarma, leaving no room for doubt about their involvement. He emphasized that those responsible for disrupting peace and carrying out the assault must face consequences.
Jamatia further stated that the BJP will appeal to the Chief Minister to ensure that strict legal action is taken against all those involved in the incident.
The incident has further strained the uneasy alliance between the BJP and Tipra Motha, which had already been showing signs of growing friction in recent months.
It maybe added that a day ago local MLA and Tripura’s Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, who represents the Tipra Motha party, had earlier denied the allegations.
He urged BJP leaders to act with greater political maturity before making public accusations, especially in such sensitive matters.
Debbarma maintained that his party had no involvement in the violence and warned against using such incidents to create political polarization.
The situation remains tense in the region, and political observers suggest that the alliance may be heading toward deeper trouble if such confrontations continue.
