Following the directive of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, the Directorate of Secondary Education has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the tragic incident involving the alleged suicide of Trisha Majumder, a Class 12 student of Sonarpur Class XII School, located in Barpathari under Belonia subdivision of South Tripura district.
The committee, led by Lisa Bardhan, Joint Director of Elementary Education, also includes Kajal Kumar Bhowmik, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Directorate of Secondary Education, and Sudip Sarkar, OSD at the office of the District Education Officer, West. The panel has been tasked with conducting a thorough inquiry into all circumstances surrounding the student’s untimely death.
According to preliminary reports, the incident may have been triggered by scolding from a teacher, which allegedly caused significant distress to the student. However, officials have stated that all aspects of the case will be closely examined to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
The committee has been asked to complete its enquiry swiftly and submit a detailed report by Tuesday, July 30. Authorities have emphasized that any findings indicating negligence or misconduct will be acted upon firmly and in accordance with due process.
The Chief Minister has expressed deep concern over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He also directed the Education Department to strengthen student counseling mechanisms and ensure that school environments remain supportive and sensitive to student needs.
The tragic case has sparked public outcry and renewed focus on mental health awareness and student welfare in educational institutions across the state. Further action is expected following the submission of the inquiry report.
