Agartala, June 7:
In a significant step towards bolstering healthcare services and medical education in Tripura, a four-member team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, led by its Director Dr. M. Srinivas, has arrived in the state on the invitation of Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
The AIIMS delegation began its three-day visit to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital on Saturday, aiming to assess existing infrastructure and recommend ways to improve public health delivery systems and the quality of medical education.
Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, after a high-level meeting with the AIIMS team, AGMC, and GBP authorities, emphasized the state government’s unwavering determination to transform Tripura into a healthcare hub of the region.
He noted that the AIIMS team’s visit reflects a focused initiative to address the growing public health demands of the state.
“The team will evaluate a wide range of areas, including required manpower, the number of UG and PG seats, departmental needs, medical equipment, diagnostics, hospital management, and super-specialty services. Based on their observations, a roadmap for comprehensive improvement will be laid out,” Gitte said.
He also confirmed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tripura government and AIIMS is in the pipeline and that within a year, the state will be implementing the recommendations made by the expert team.
Prior to their hospital visits, the AIIMS delegation held a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
The visiting experts are also scheduled to interact directly with doctors and patients to gain ground-level insights, ensuring that their proposals are practical and tailored to local needs.
Highlighting Tripura’s healthcare evolution, the Health Secretary shared that the state has made notable progress over the last six decades in GBP hospital, particularly with the establishment of AGMC 20 years ago.
This collaborative initiative signals a strategic commitment by the Tripura government to strengthen its public health infrastructure and make quality medical care accessible to all citizens.
