Agartala, June 2:
Braving heavy rain, Youth Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the ruling BJP alliance partner Tipra Motha party, staged a coordinated protest in front of several government offices across Gomati district on Monday.
The demonstrations were held to protest the alleged misbehavior of Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma with Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma over a week ago.
The epicenter of the protest was in DM office complex area in Udaipur, the district headquarters, where a large number of YTF supporters assembled near the DM office complex.
Tensions flared as protestors locked the office gate, preventing staff and officials from entering, prompting intervention by police and paramilitary forces deployed in anticipation of unrest.
District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, along with other senior officials, was present at the spot and tried to negotiate with the YTF leadership to de-escalate the situation. However, the talks failed to yield any resolution.
The demonstrators, waving lock and chain and shouting slogans against the DM, demanded his immediate transfer, warning the administration that if action is not taken by 5 PM today, they will intensify their agitation with a 12-hour district-wide shutdown in Gomati on Tuesday.
Despite the inclement weather, the protest marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tension between Tipra Motha supporters and the local administration, with the issue now snowballing into a potential law and order concern for the state government.
