Agartala: May 22: Acting on a confidential tip-off, Bilonia Police detained six individuals at Belonia Vidyapith Mini Stadium late last night. Authorities reported that none of them possessed valid documentation.

According to police sources, the detainees entered India illegally from Bangladesh through the Amjad Nagar border, reportedly paying human traffickers 39,000 Bangladeshi Taka for assistance. Upon arrival, they had no place to stay and sought shelter at Vidyapith Mini Stadium overnight. Their plan was to travel to Mayapur, West Bengal, the following morning.
The detained individuals have been identified as:
– Prantosh Chandra Sutradhar (36), a resident of Comilla, Bangladesh
– Shubho Das (30), a resident of Narayanganj, Bangladesh
– Priyanka Das (25), from Kakdwip, Sundarbans, West Bengal
– Bhupal Bauri (59), from East Bardhaman, West Bengal
– Premananda Goswami (28) and his mother, Madhabi Goswami (48), from Bardhaman, West Bengal
Belonia Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Shibu Ranjan Dey, confirmed that an official investigation is underway, and a formal case has been registered under the IPP Act with case number Belonia PS 33/25.
Concerns over border security have intensified following reports of continued illegal crossings. Over the past month, more than 21 Bangladeshi nationals are said to have entered India through the Amjad Nagar border fence, bypassing security forces. While police have detained these individuals upon arrival, authorities are investigating potential gaps in border surveillance. Intelligence agencies, including BSF units, have heightened their efforts to address the situation and identify any human trafficking networks involved.
