Agartala, May 13: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched a scathing attack on Opposition parties on Tuesday, asserting that his government has brought transparency, improved law and order, and curbed drugs, corruption and political violence, unlike the previous regimes.
He said the transformation of a system shaped by four decades of cultural and political practices will take time, but the present government is committed to reform.
Speaking at a ceremony at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala, where 975 police constables—643 males and 332 females—received appointment letters, Saha described the recruitment drive as a milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen law enforcement and public safety.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, announced that an additional 916 police constables, 218 Sub-Inspectors, and 6,067 Special Executives will be recruited shortly.
Emphasizing transparency, he assured aspirants that political identity or agitation is no longer a prerequisite for securing government jobs.
“Our recruitment process is entirely merit-based and free from political interference. The police have been given complete operational freedom, which has translated into real progress,” said Saha.
He highlighted that Tripura currently ranks third-lowest in crime rates nationwide. Road traffic accidents in the state declined by 13% in 2024, and during the first four months of 2025, accident rates dropped by 40% compared to the same period last year.
In the battle against narcotics, Saha noted a 106% increase in drug seizures and a 132% rise in drug destruction throughout 2024.
On the issue of infiltration, he reported an 18% increase in cases and a 36% rise in arrests related to illegal entry from Bangladesh, crediting the coordinated efforts of the BSF, state police, and TSR.
Reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards misinformation, Saha warned that the state is maintaining extensive surveillance on social media. “Anyone spreading provocative content in social media will not be spared,” he cautioned.
On employment, the Chief Minister shared that from February 2 to May 13, 2025, a total of 4,499 appointment letters have been distributed across departments, including the 975 constable posts. Altogether, this government has provided 17,554 jobs—both regular and die-in-harness—through a transparent, merit-based system up to March 2025.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also extended strong support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation, particularly in the context of Operation Sindoor.
He said the Prime Minister’s statement reflected the firm and nationalist ideology of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, rooted in prioritizing India’s sovereignty and security.
Commenting on India-Pakistan relations, Dr. Saha echoed the Prime Minister’s assertion that peace and terrorism cannot coexist. “India has always favoured peaceful coexistence, but trade and terror cannot go together. It is now up to Pakistan to decide the future of bilateral relations through its actions,” he remarked.
Saha concluded by affirming his government’s commitment to creating new job opportunities and filling vacant posts, despite the negativity and misinformation allegedly spread by opposition parties.
Cabinet Ministers- Sushanta Chowdhury, Tinku Roy, Bikas Debbarma and Shukla Charan Noatia, MP Rajya Sabha Rajib Bhattacharjee, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, DGP (Intl.) Anurag and others were present during the programme.
