Agartala, May 3: In a significant crackdown on cross-border infiltration and human trafficking, four persons—including a Bangladeshi national—were arrested on Friday in Dharmanagar, North Tripura district. The arrests followed a joint operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police, said a senior police official.
Sritikanta Bardhan, Officer-in-Charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, informed that the BSF handed over the four individuals to the police, after which a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Passport (IPP) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. All accused were produced before the Dharmanagar court the same day.
“The arrests are part of an intensified vigilance campaign in the border areas, where police and BSF have been conducting round-the-clock patrols and raiding suspected touts’ houses,” Bardhan said.
He added that two suspected touts, already facing police cases, were taken to Ragna Border Outpost (BOP) for interrogation. Based on the information obtained, a Bangladeshi woman was arrested, leading to the registration of the case against four individuals—identified as Iti Deb, Almas Mia, Anjana Das, and Krishna Chandra Deb.
In a startling revelation, Krishna Chandra Deb admitted to reporters that his wife, is a Bangladeshi national who illegally entered India through a fenced gate, although he failed to specify the entry point.
Authorities have intensified vigilance across border areas to crack down on infiltration and related criminal activities.
