Agartala, May 1: In a powerful story of grit and perseverance, Romio Hrangkhawl, a differently-abled student from Kamalachhara village under Ambassa subdivision in Dhalai district, has cleared the Madhyamik (Class 10) examination conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), using his toes to write.
Born with a locomotor disability that rendered both his hands non-functional, along with skeletal issues and difficulty speaking, Romio began writing with his feet at a young age. Overcoming physical and societal barriers, he managed to achieve what many deemed impossible.
Romio’s determination and academic success have earned him widespread admiration, including accolades from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who described him as a “beacon of inspiration” for his indomitable will to succeed.
A student of Kamalachhara High School, Romio kept pace with regular students despite the odds stacked against him.
His father Hariram Hrangkhawl played a crucial role in ensuring his education continued uninterrupted, while the encouragement from teachers and family members kept his morale high.
Speaking to the media, Romio’s father Hariram expressed overwhelming pride: “He has always been dedicated to his studies despite the challenges. His next aim is to pursue higher education but with poor financial conditions it will be tough to continue.”
Romio’s accomplishment has moved not only his immediate community but also education officials and peers.
The headmistress of Kamalachhara High School, Anjana Chakma, expressed immense pride, saying, “We were confident that Romio will pass and when got the information we were overwhelmed. It is a great day for all of us. He use to regularly attend school and even sitting in the bench he would write with his toes.”
She added that he is a symbol of perseverance and his story will motivate many others to rise above limitations.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also shared a message on X (formerly Twitter), praising Romio’s courage and determination. “Romio Hrangkhawl’s story exemplifies how strong willpower can overcome the harshest challenges. I congratulate him and extend my best wishes to his family and teachers who supported him,” he posted.
Romio’s journey stands as a testament to human resilience and the power of education in transforming lives.
