Agartala: April 14: Bamanchhara, Surma Constituency (No. 46), April 14: Tension gripped the Bamanchhara Panchayat area under Surma Constituency No. 46 after alleged BJP miscreants attacked a peaceful birthday celebration of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on Sunday morning. The incident took place at Hotat Bazar, where members and supporters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) had gathered to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
According to reports, a group of armed miscreants stormed the event and began attacking the CPI(M) workers with sticks and sharp weapons. In the sudden violence, Anil Das — a prominent Scheduled Caste leader and a member of the Kamalpur Sub-division Committee of the CPI(M) — was seriously injured. He sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Several others were reported to have sustained minor injuries during the attack.
The incident has created panic and outrage in the region. In protest, enraged CPI(M) supporters surrounded the local police station, demanding immediate action against the attackers and justice for the victims. Protesters have alleged police inaction and demanded that the culprits, allegedly affiliated with the BJP, be arrested without delay.
The situation in Bamanchhara remains tense, with additional police forces reportedly deployed to maintain law and order. Local CPI(M) leaders have condemned the attack, calling it a blatant attempt to suppress democratic rights and target Scheduled Caste voices.
No official statement from the BJP has been released as of now. Meanwhile, the administration is on high alert, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
