Agartala: April 04: This year, as in previous years, the Basanti Puja was celebrated with great grandeur and religious devotion at the Durga Bari in Agartala. Held in the month of Chaitra, Basanti Puja is a special form of Durga Puja, distinct from the more widely celebrated Durga Puja in Ashwin. The festival brings together a large number of devotees, and this year, Maha Saptami saw an impressive turnout at the Durga Bari mandap.
Durga Puja holds immense significance for Hindus, particularly among Bengalis, and while the Ashwin celebration is the most prominent, Basanti Puja is equally cherished. The rituals of the puja commenced on Thursday with the Bodhon ceremony, followed by the observance of Maha Ashtami the previous day. On Maha Saptami, devotees gathered in large numbers, reflecting the deep religious fervor surrounding the festival.
The puja at Durga Bari is conducted annually under a government initiative, ensuring its smooth organization and participation from the community. The priest overseeing the rituals confirmed that everything had been arranged meticulously, and there were no shortcomings in the preparations. The atmosphere at the Durga Bari was filled with devotion and discipline, with the traditional rituals being followed closely.
In addition to the Durga Bari, Basanti Puja is also being observed in various clubs across the state, coinciding with the Durga Puja of Ashwin month. These celebrations reflect the vibrant cultural traditions of the region, and the devotion of the people of Agartala to the goddess Durga. This year’s Basanti Puja, like every other, stands as a testament to the community’s enduring faith and the cultural significance of the festival.
