Agartala: Mar 22: Under the Tripura state government, approximately 40,000 irregular employees have been demanding regularization for a long time. Today, the Tripura Irregular Employees Forum organized a press conference in support of their six-point demands and warned that if their demands are not met within a month, they will launch a Secretariat campaign in the first week of May.
These employees, working in various departments of the Tripura state government, have been raising their demand for regularization for decades. In 2006-07, a decision was made in the state assembly to regularize irregular employees, but many employees have not yet been regularized as per that decision. In 2018, the state cabinet decided to halt this process, and no new directives have been issued for the regularization of part-time employees. As a result, 30,000 to 32,000 employees are living in extreme uncertainty today.
Due to the absence of a government scheme, they are unable to approach the High Court. Additionally, they state that according to constitutional rights, equal pay for equal work is their right, but it is not being fulfilled. They further claim that the meager wages received by irregular employees make it nearly impossible to support their families.
In the past seven years, no irregular employee has been regularized, although before the 2018 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party promised in their vision document that if they formed the government, all irregular employees would be regularized. However, this promise has not yet been fulfilled. Therefore, the leaders of the Tripura Irregular Employees Forum have presented six demands to the state government, including the regularization of all irregular employees, a one-time payment of ten lakh rupees to retired employees, and the introduction of a regularization scheme after ten years of service for irregular employees.
The leaders of the Tripura Irregular Employees Forum have clearly stated that if the government does not respond to their demands, they will launch a Secretariat campaign in the first week of May.
