Agartala, March 21: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police arrested three key drug kingpins, including two from the state and one from Assam, during a raid at a hotel in Agartala on Friday. The police also seized 1.10 lakh Yaba tablets, valued at over ₹5.5 crore, from the accused, said SP West Tripura district Dr. Kiran Kumar.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Kumar stated that the arrests were made based on specific intelligence about a group of traffickers conducting a narcotics deal at the hotel. Acting swiftly, a police team led by SDPO Sadar Sub-Division, along with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of East Agartala Police Station, raided the premises and found the contraband concealed in 11 packets inside a trolley bag.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sahidul Hussain Talukdar of Silchar, Assam, and two Tripura-based traffickers, Nayanmani Namasudra from Kachucherran and Biswajit Biswas from Salema, Dhalai district.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against them.
The SP confirmed that police will seek their remand from the court for further interrogation to uncover the full extent of the drug network and its possible links across state borders.
