Agartala: Mar 04: A serious incident of medical negligence has come to light involving a patient who was transferred from Melaghar Hospital with a half-finished oxygen cylinder, leading to a life-threatening situation during transit. The patient, identified as Sulekha Sarkar from the Melaghar Rajghat area, was being transferred to GB Hospital for treatment after experiencing breathing difficulties. However, during the journey, the oxygen in the cylinder ran out as they reached Bairagi Bazar, causing the patient to almost stop breathing.
In a state of panic, the family rushed the patient to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they were able to provide immediate oxygen support, and the patient’s breathing was restored. The family members, visibly distressed, raised alarms about the situation. Following this, the doctor on duty at Bishalgarh Hospital made arrangements for the patient to be transferred to Agartala GB Hospital via ambulance for further treatment.
The situation has sparked allegations of gross negligence against the doctor at Melaghar Hospital. The question raised is why a critical patient, already struggling with breathing issues, was sent with an incomplete oxygen supply. The patient’s family, as well as concerned members of the public, have expressed outrage over the incident, demanding accountability from the medical staff involved in the transfer. The lack of proper medical oversight during the transfer has led to serious concerns about patient safety and the standard of care at Melaghar Hospital.
This case highlights the importance of proper medical protocol during patient transfers, especially for critical cases. The family’s distress, coupled with the close call during the transfer, has brought to light the urgent need for stricter supervision and better medical practices at healthcare facilities.
