Agartala: Feb 27:The Agartala Municipal Corporation has recently undertaken an eviction drive, demolishing illegally constructed roads and temporary shops in Lake Bazar. The operation took place late on Wednesday night, targeting shops that were occupying public spaces without authorization.
A few days prior to the demolition, Mayor Deepak Majumdar visited Lake Chaumuhani Bazar. During his visit, the Agartala Railway Corporation had issued orders for the owners of the illegally constructed shops to vacate their premises. However, the small traders did not comply with the directive, leading to the demolition of several shops by the municipal corporation using bulldozers.
The affected traders have expressed their grievances, stating that they have been conducting business in Lake Chaumuhani Bazar since the Rajya Sabha period and have not faced such eviction actions in the past. They allege that the current eviction drive, carried out during the BJP government’s tenure, has left many families disoriented and financially strained. The traders further claim that the Agartala Municipal Corporation did not make any arrangements for their rehabilitation, resulting in significant financial losses for the affected families.
