Agartala: Feb 24: Tripura Police marked its 150th anniversary today, a milestone that underscores its significant role in maintaining law and order while also fostering sportsmanship in the state. Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha inaugurated the 73rd BN Mallik Memorial All India Police Football Championship-2024-25 at Umakanta Football Stadium in Agartala, highlighting the police’s dual contribution to security and sports.
In his address, the Chief Minister praised the Tripura Police for their dedication to both law enforcement and social welfare, emphasizing that peace in the state is a direct result of their efforts. This year’s football championship, organized for the first time in Tripura, has attracted widespread participation, with 25 states, 4 union territories, and 7 central forces joining the competition. A total of 36 men’s teams and 9 women’s teams are competing in the event, which will run until March 7 across five astroturf football grounds in West Tripura, South Tripura, and Gomati districts.
The Chief Minister also expressed that such sporting events would foster camaraderie and cultural exchange among players from different states. He encouraged participants to explore Tripura’s cultural and historical tourist attractions during their stay.
Further addressing the audience, Chief Minister Saha emphasized that Tripura’s law and order situation is among the best in the country, aided by the central government’s initiatives under the ‘Act East Policy’. He also spoke about the rapid infrastructure development in the state, including the construction of six national highways and the modernization of MBB Airport.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including State Director General of Police Amitabh Ranjan and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy. The Chief Minister was honored with a guard of honor by the Tripura Police, and the players were administered an oath during the ceremony.
