Agartala: Dec 24: Dharmanagar police successfully arrested a heroin smuggler on Tuesday afternoon and seized 200 grams of heroin. Acting on a tip-off, the police launched a search operation in the Krishnapur area, where they apprehended a suspicious individual carrying a market bag. Upon searching the bag, the police discovered eighteen soap boxes, each containing a packet of heroin, totaling approximately 200 grams.
The arrested smuggler, identified as Imam Uddin, a resident of Ward No. 6 in Raua Gram Panchayat under Panisagar police station, was taken into custody. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and an investigation is underway.
This arrest is particularly significant as the North district has largely remained unaffected by narcotics seizures, despite being a known corridor for drug trafficking. Many instances of police inaction have contributed to the ongoing smuggling activities in the region. However, this operation marks a notable success for the Dharmanagar police.
During interrogation, the police are working to trace the origin and destination of the heroin and to identify others involved in the smuggling network. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade in the region, with the police focusing on dismantling trafficking routes and apprehending those responsible.
