Agartala: Dec 24: On the occasion of National Consumer Day-2024, Food Minister Sushant Chowdhury announced the launch of awareness programs across 25 higher educational institutions in the state. The initiative aims to spread awareness on three crucial issues: ‘Jago Grahak Jago’ (Wake Up Consumer), ‘Road Safety,’ and ‘Anti-Drug’ campaigns. This announcement was made at the “National Consumer Day-2024” event, organized by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Welfare at Prajna Bhavan in Agartala.
The awareness programs will be conducted in various institutions, including general degree colleges, polytechnic colleges, and renowned educational establishments across the state. These programs will be organized in collaboration with the Transport and Home Departments. As part of the awareness campaign, activities such as rallies, quiz competitions, and prize distributions will be held in these institutions starting next week.
Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the road safety program would officially kick off in January of the upcoming year. He highlighted the importance of spreading awareness to reduce road accidents and ensure safety on the roads. The government’s main objective is to create a mass movement that instills responsibility and a proactive attitude toward road safety among citizens, particularly the youth. Chowdhury stressed that even if the program reaches only a small group of people, it will have a significant impact on society as a whole.
The ‘Jago Grahak Jago’ campaign aims to educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities, promoting fair trade and ethical consumerism. Meanwhile, the ‘Anti-Drug’ initiative seeks to address the growing problem of substance abuse, particularly among the youth, by providing information about the dangers of drugs and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
This initiative marks a significant step toward raising awareness on critical societal issues, with the government working toward creating long-term positive change through education and community involvement.
