Agartala, December 8: In a major crackdown on illegal ganja cultivation, the PR Bari police station in South Tripura district achieved another significant success on Saturday by destroying large-scale cannabis plantations in bordering forest areas.
The operation, led by Abhijit Das, SDPO of Belonia, and SI Ratan Rabi Das, Officer-in-Charge of PR Bari police station, was conducted in coordination with various agencies.
The team included Bimal Das, Wildlife Warden, Sukanta Sarkar, Assistant Wildlife Warden of the Forest Department, Shyamlal Meena, Assistant Commandant of CRPF, SI MK Somaiah of 43 battalion BSF, Inspector Rakesh Bhowmik of the Excise Department, along with TSR personnel and women officers.
The joint raid and search operation targeted deep forest areas in Monaipathar, Hetalia, Kamalapathar, and Woangcherra under the PR Bari police station.
During the operation, approximately 32,000 pre-mature ganja plants, spread across 11 plots and covering 6 acres of reserve forest land, were destroyed said SI Ratan Rabi Das, OC of PR Bari police station.
This marks yet another success for PR Bari police in combating illegal drug cultivation.
SI Das noted that similar operations have been conducted earlier and reiterated their commitment to eradicating illegal cannabis plantations from the region.
The massive operation highlights the coordinated efforts of the police, forest department, CRPF, BSF, and excise officials in tackling the menace of drug cultivation in South Tripura. Such joint initiatives are expected to continue to ensure the elimination of illegal ganja farming and curb the drug trade in the state beside safeguard the region and prevent the exploitation of forest land for illegal activities.
