Agartala: Nov 17: Based on secret information, the GRP (Government Railway Police) and RPF (Railway Protection Force) together arrested two individuals earlier today (17/11/2024) near Platform 1 at Agartala Railway Station. The arrested men were found in possession of 298.05 kg of dry cannabis, which was being transported in a handcart. The cannabis was packed in 24 cartons, totaling 282 packets. The two accused intended to transport the consignment to Bihar via the Durgapur Express train.
The estimated market value of the seized drugs is approximately ₹35.76 lakh. A case under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act has been registered at the GRP Agartala Police Station. Authorities are conducting intense interrogation to identify other individuals involved in the operation, and it is suspected that more arrests could follow in the coming days.
The two arrested men, Bittu Kumar (27) and Ankul Kumar (23) of Bihar were employed as bedroll boys on the Durgapur Express train.
The police are currently probing the connection between the arrested individuals and potential larger drug trafficking networks. The accused are expected to be presented in court tomorrow, where police will seek their remand for further investigation. This bust highlights a significant effort by the authorities to curb drug trafficking through the state’s railway network.
