Agartala: Nov 09: Honorable Member of Parliament from Tripura East Constituency, Maharani Kriti Singh Debbarma, visited the Border Security Force (BSF) Headquarters at Salbagan, Agartala. During her visit, she met with the Inspector General of BSF, Tripura, Sh. Patel Piyush Purushottam Das, IPS, and held a comprehensive discussion on various issues concerning the security of the border state of Tripura.
The Inspector General briefed the Honorable MP on the current security situation along the international border, emphasizing the proactive measures being taken by BSF to address the challenges posed by the ongoing situation in neighboring Bangladesh. The IG assured Maharani Debbarma that the BSF is fully prepared and remains in a heightened state of alert along the Tripura-Bangladesh border. He highlighted that BSF has successfully thwarted numerous infiltration attempts in 2024, apprehending over 571 Bangladeshi nationals and 52 Rohingyas. Furthermore, BSF is coordinating closely with state police, civil administration, and other agencies to conduct joint operations in the hinterland, resulting in the arrest of 52 touts.
BSF has also been active in curbing smuggling activities, with seizures of contraband and narcotics valued at Rs. 87 crores so far in 2024. The IG further apprised the MP about various welfare initiatives undertaken by BSF, including pre-recruitment training for border youths, medical camps in remote border villages, skill development centers, and the distribution of sports goods and essential items to local communities. The BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) has also made significant strides in empowering women and motivating them to join the forces, an initiative that the Honorable MP highly appreciated.
Maharani Debbarma commended the efforts of BSF and assured full support from the Government to strengthen security measures in the region.
