Agartala, August 14: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the East Agartala police arrested five drug traffickers, including three women, all from Bihar at the Chandrapur ISBT on Wednesday said a senior police official here.
The accused were found in possession of 14 kg of dry marijuana, valued at over ₹3 lakh.
Deba Prasad Roy, SDPO Sadar, informed that the arrests were made following a tip-off about suspicious movements in the ISBT area. Acting swiftly, OC East Police Station Rana Chatterjee, along with his team and female police official, conducted a body search of the suspects and recovered the marijuana.
The arrested individuals, all from Vishal district of Bihar, were preparing to board a bus to Guwahati when they were apprehended.
According to the police, the traffickers collect marijuana in Tripura and smuggle it to Bihar, where its value multiplies several times.
The police are currently interrogating the accused to identify the source of the marijuana and their intended recipients.
A NDPS case has been registered against them and they shall be produce before the court with appeal for police remand for further interrogation.
The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts of Tripura’s law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking in the region.
