Agartala, 20 July: Amid worsening conditions in Bangladesh following anti-quota protests, Indian students studying there have begun returning home. Atleast 50 students back to their home through Integrated Check Posts.
On Saturday, four MBBS students from Brahmanbaria Medical College and Hospital crossed into Agartala, Tripura, via the Agartala Integrated Check Post. Among them three students were from Assam and one from Meghalaya.
The students reported receiving assistance from the Indian Embassy in Dhaka to facilitate their return.
The Indian High Commission and Bangladesh police remain in constant contact with Indian students as the situation escalates.
The returnees cited panic following the shutdown of internet connectivity and the closure of their medical college.
Approximately 70-80 Indian students from various states, including Jammu & Kashmir, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Haryana, are currently enrolled at Brahmanbaria Medical College and are seeking to return home due to the turmoil. BSF arranged refreshment, water, transportation and if required accommodations for the students
Reportedly students are also returning via Tripura’s Srimantapur border in Sepahijala district, opposite Comilla in Bangladesh.
