Agartala, July 14:In the wake of recent violence in Gandatwisa, District Magistrate (DM) of Dhalai Saju Vaheed and Superintendent of Police (SP) Avinash Rai visited the affected area to assess the damage and review arrangements for residents currently housed in temporary shelters. The officials encountered significant public anger, with residents alleging that the police failed to intervene during the looting and arson of homes and shops three days prior.
The affected residents, many of whom have taken refuge in a local school, expressed their frustration and demanded accountability. They accused the police of not taking timely action to prevent the destruction of their properties.
DM Saju Vaheed assured the residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted and necessary measures would be taken to ensure their safety and rehabilitation.
SP Avinash Rai also addressed the concerns of the residents, promising enhanced security and immediate steps to prevent further violence.
The visit by the officials aimed to not only assess the immediate needs of the displaced residents but also to rebuild trust between the community and law enforcement.
They also took part in meetings held to restore normalcy and towards confidence building among both the communities.
However, the palpable anger and fear among the residents highlight the urgent need for effective and timely intervention to prevent further unrest.
The government has pledged support for the victims and announced plans for compensation and rehabilitation. As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on restoring peace and addressing the grievances of those affected by the recent violence.
