Agartala, July 13: Opposition CPIM state secretary and Tripura opposition leader Jitendra Choudhury has criticized the BJP-led government for the violent incidents in Gandatwisa last night, alleging that the violence occurred in front of security forces.
During a press conference in Agartala, Choudhury described the incident as “saddening and unfortunate,” asserting that the complete responsibility lies with the ruling BJP and its ally, TIPRA Motha, for failing to control the situation.
Choudhury highlighted the local administration’s negligence, permitting events like Anondo Mela and other local fairs, which he claimed continue for days and exacerbate issues such as food and work shortages in the villages.
He accused the administration of losing control despite the presence of police personnel and demanded immediate measures to restore peace, normalcy, and order in the area.
The opposition leader called for the government to provide a job to the family of the deceased, along with special compensation for all those affected by the violence.
He argued that the instant compensation provided by disaster management authorities or local administration would not be sufficient to cover the damages sustained.
Choudhury also urged leaders of different political parties, including the BJP, to visit the affected area, interact with local communities, and address their concerns.
He mentioned that former Chief Minister and CPIM politburo member Manik Sarkar had spoken with the current Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, to discuss the situation and share his views.
