Agartala, July 1:
Tripura is set to make its entry into the international cricket map with the near completion of the state’s first international-standard cricket stadium at Narsingarh. The Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) on Wednesday said it is hopeful that the stadium will be ready by August this year, enabling the state to host Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and other international fixtures from next year.
Addressing a press conference, TCA president Tapan Lodh said the construction of the stadium has reached its final stage after overcoming several legal and administrative hurdles. Once completed, it will become Tripura’s first international cricket venue and the second such stadium in the Northeast.
TCA Secretary Subrata Dey and other official bearers were also present.
Affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the TCA is optimistic that the stadium will meet all infrastructure requirements for hosting IPL matches and international cricket from the 2027 season onwards. Lodh said the association is hopeful of securing at least one IPL match at the venue next year, subject to approvals from the BCCI.
Built at a sanctioned cost of Rs 185.13 crore, the project has already seen works worth nearly Rs 178 crore completed as of June 30, 2026. The remaining works, estimated at around Rs 7 crore, include installation of the Integrated Building Management System (IBMS), central air-conditioning, roofing of the main pavilion, media and television production blocks, false ceilings, ACP cladding and advanced fire safety systems.
The installation of floodlights for day-night matches has also progressed significantly. Foundations for six high-mast towers have been completed, while the floodlight units have already reached the site and the towers are ready for installation.
Strategically located near the India-Bangladesh border, the stadium is expected to attract cricket enthusiasts from both sides of the border and significantly strengthen cricket infrastructure in the Northeast.
Once operational, the venue is expected to open a new chapter for Tripura by bringing top-level domestic and international cricket closer to fans in the region.
