Agartala: Feb 07: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has strongly protested against the central government’s policies, which they claim are anti-labor, anti-farmer, and anti-people. A large protest rally was organized in Agartala today, starting from the party district office at Melarmath. The procession passed through various city roads before gathering for a meeting at Kaman Chaumuhani.
During a press interaction, CITU leader Manik Dey emphasized that the rally was organized following the directives of the CITU central leadership to protest the government’s policies. Dey criticized the 2025 central budget, calling it a “very bad budget” with no focus on the common people. He argued that crucial sectors like education, health, labor, and rural development have suffered cuts in funding. Instead, he claimed that the budget disproportionately benefits the wealthy, with funds being channeled toward the elite.
Dey further criticized the government’s lack of provisions for the unemployed, stating that the budget fails to create job opportunities, exacerbating the unemployment crisis. According to him, this budget is not a people-centric one but a “monopoly budget,” designed to enrich capitalists at the expense of ordinary citizens. CITU has raised its voice against these policies, condemning the central budget as a harmful and unjust approach to governance, which, they argue, neglects the needs of the laborers, farmers, and the marginalized sections of society.
