Agartala, January 24: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha officially launched the Tripura Startup Policy 2024, a landmark initiative aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the state.
The policy is being implemented through its Directorate of Information Technology and aimed towards creating an ecosystem that nurtures startups, encourages young innovators, and drives economic growth.
The launch event, held at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, was also attended by IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, IT Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director IT Jeya Ragul Geshan B, and several other senior officials, entrepreneurs, students, and business leaders.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from various stakeholders, including startups and academic institutions, highlighting the state’s growing entrepreneurial spirit.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Manik Saha underscored the pivotal role of startups in building a “Viksit Bharat” and urged entrepreneurs to make the most of the opportunities provided under the new policy.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting innovation and creating employment opportunities through strategic interventions.
IT Minister Pranajit Singha Roy highlighted the importance of the policy in attracting investments and called on the startup community to actively engage with the initiatives introduced by the government.
The Tripura Startup Policy 2024 includes a range of fiscal incentives to support startups at various stages of their growth.
Recognized startups will receive grants, operational cost reimbursements, and marketing assistance to introduce their products or services to the market.
Financial aid will also be provided for prototype development and patent filings, encouraging innovation across sectors. Startups led by women and physically challenged entrepreneurs will receive additional benefits to promote inclusivity.
To strengthen infrastructure, the government has announced the establishment of a Tri-Infra Fund with an initial corpus of ₹25 crores for incubators, testing labs, and design studios. Additionally, a ₹50-crore venture capital fund has been created, offering financial assistance ranging from ₹25 lakhs to ₹2 crores for eligible startups. Educational institutions will also be supported through grants and operational funding to establish incubation centers.
During the event, Chief Minister Saha handed over a cheque of ₹75 lakhs to TalkEng (Agastya), a local edtech startup, from the Tripura Startup Venture Capital Fund.
Certificates of recognition were also presented to various startups for their contributions under the Tripura IT/ITeS Policy.
A dedicated web portal, Startup Tripura, was launched to streamline access to resources, support, and information for startups.
In a bid to raise awareness about the policy, the CM, IT Minister and other dignitaries also flagged off Startup Spark Vans, which will tour all districts of the state, engaging with aspiring entrepreneurs and promoting the policy’s benefits.
An exhibition showcasing innovative products and services by Tripura-based startups was another highlight of the event, reflecting the entrepreneurial talent emerging in the state.
With the launch of the Tripura Startup Policy 2024, the state government envisions a transformative shift in its entrepreneurial landscape.
The policy aims to inspire young innovators, foster the growth of startups, and create numerous employment opportunities, paving the way for a prosperous and self-reliant Tripura.
