Agartala, January 22: In a unique initiative to raise awareness about traffic rules and reduce accidents, the Tripura Police on Wednesday engaged senior school students to act as traffic volunteers across the state.
As part of the Police Week-2025 celebrations, hundreds of students were stationed at 30 vital locations in Agartala, where they temporarily took on the responsibilities of traffic police. These young volunteers stopped bikers and four-wheelers to ensure compliance with traffic rules.
When commuters adhered to the rules, the students rewarded them with roses while gently reminding them to wear helmets properly, use seat belts, and avoid using mobile phones while driving. The initiative aimed to instill a culture of responsible driving and encourage road safety.
The program was designed not only to educate commuters but also to inspire students about the critical role traffic police play in ensuring public safety. The rising number of vehicular accidents in the state, often resulting in fatalities, prompted the authorities to undertake this awareness drive.
Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative, calling it a meaningful exposure to the responsibilities of traffic management and an inspiration to serve the nation.
With increasing vehicle numbers posing challenges to road safety, such innovative approaches by the Tripura Police are expected to contribute significantly to reducing accidents and saving lives.
