Agartala, January 5 : A joyful picnic turned into a nightmare in Tripura’s Sepahijala district when a
truck carrying a group of picnickers including women and children, lost control and plunged into a gully on
Sunday.
The accident occurred in the Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary while the group was returning home after a day of celebration.
Eyewitnesses, including members of other picnic teams present at the spot, reported that the truck veered off the road and tumbled down the slope, leaving the passengers trapped and injured.
According to witnesses, cries for help filled the air as rescuers broke parts of
the vehicle’s body to extricate the injured.
Local firefighters rushed to the scene and transported the victims to Bishalgarh Hospital for urgent medical
care.
While the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, preliminary
reports suggest the vehicle may have lost control due to poor road conditions or mechanical failure.
The incident has once again raised alarms over road safety in Tripura.
Despite various measures implemented by the government, road accidents
continue to be a major concern.
Reports indicate that at least 226 people lost their lives in road accidents
across the state in 2024.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the mishap, and
efforts are underway to provide further assistance to the injured victims.
