Agartala, December 31: Amid ongoing protests by Congress and CPIM in Tripura over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Parliament about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday criticized the Opposition for what he termed as “false propaganda” to mislead the public.
Addressing the media, Saha accused the Congress and CPIM of joining forces to create an unnecessary controversy over Shah’s comments.
He claimed that the Opposition’s attempts to politicize the issue would fail as people are well aware of the Congress party’s historical treatment of Ambedkar.
Highlighting the Congress party’s past actions, Saha alleged that Ambedkar was neglected and dishonored during Congress regimes, and his contributions were sidelined.
He added that it was only after the BJP came to power that efforts were made to honor Ambedkar’s legacy.
Saha said that the BJP government has taken concrete steps to preserve Ambedkar’s memory. All places associated with him have been identified and preserved as historical landmarks.
He added that significant statues of Ambedkar have also installed and initiatives undertaken to ensure the younger generation learns about his invaluable contributions to the nation.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Opposition’s attempts to tarnish the BJP’s image were politically motivated and aimed at diverting public attention from their own failures.
