Agartala, December 28: Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and New & Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, chaired a high-level review meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Saturday to assess and improve the public distribution system (PDS), warehousing infrastructure, and rural electrification through renewable energy in Tripura.
The meeting was attended by Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, and other senior officials.
Key issues discussed included enhancing the procurement of paddy from local farmers at minimum support price (MSP) and expanding clean electricity coverage in remote villages using renewable energy sources.
Reportedly, the Union Minister emphasized the need to strengthen the PDS and warehousing facilities to ensure seamless food distribution and storage in the state.
He also stressed the importance of leveraging renewable energy to electrify villages that remain off-grid, thus improving rural livelihoods.
Earlier in the day, Minister Joshi inspected a Food Corporation of India (FCI) warehouse at Nandannagar, located on the outskirts of Agartala, to assess its storage capacity and operational efficiency.
The Union Minister is on a three-day visit to Tripura, during which he will inspect renewable energy projects and interact with local residents and beneficiaries to review the implementation of government schemes.
The state government assured the Union Minister of its commitment to boosting agricultural procurement, promoting sustainable energy solutions, and improving overall infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for people in rural areas.
