Agartala: Dec 26: On Thursday, the government-supported paddy procurement process was officially launched at Jolaibari Motor Stand with a ceremony. The MLA of Jolaibari constituency and Minister, Shuklacharan Noatia, inaugurated the paddy procurement by watering a tree. Also present at the event were the chairman of the South District Council, Deepak Dutta, the Sub-Divisional Officer of Shantir Bazar, K.C. Gupta, the supervisor of the Jolaibari Agriculture Department, Sridam Das, the chairman of the Jolaibari Block Panchayat Samiti, Tapas Dutta, and others.
Speaking at the event, the minister said that the present state government is working to double the income of farmers. During the previous Left Front rule, no assistance was provided to farmers. During the Left Front rule, when farmers produced paddy, a special fund was collected as a levy. During the Left Front rule, farmers were involved in various movements. After the change of government in the state, the present state government is working for the development of farmers. A Krishak Samman Nidhi scheme has been launched for farmers. Free seeds and fertilizers are being provided to farmers.
Besides, various types of agricultural machinery are being distributed for the development of farmers. Farmers suffered the most in the devastating floods in August. Despite such huge losses, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Agriculture Department’s employees, farmers have successfully achieved paddy production again. This paddy procurement will continue till January 3rd. Paddy is being procured at the rate of Rs. 23 per kg, said Minister Shuklacharan Noatia. Farmers from various parts of Jolaibari constituency gathered to sell their produce. The farmers were seen to be very enthusiastic about selling paddy at the government price.
