Agartala, December 24: The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Tuesday staged a massive protest rally in Agartala, demanding the resignation and an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which they claimed insulted the architect of the Indian Constitution.
The rally, named ‘Baba Saheb Ambedkar Samman Yatra’, was organized as part of the Congress’ nationwide agitation against Shah’s controversial statement made in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
Hundreds of Congress supporters marched through the streets, raising slogans in defense of Ambedkar’s legacy and condemning the remarks as disrespectful to the principal framer of the Indian Constitution.
The rally passed through the streets of capital Agartala and culminated in front of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s Office, where a delegation of Congress leaders submitted a memorandum addressed to the President of India, urging strong action against the Home Minister.
Congress leaders asserted that Shah’s comments undermined the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution and demanded accountability for the alleged insult. They emphasized that Ambedkar’s contributions to India’s democracy must be respected and defended at all costs.
The protest in Agartala mirrored similar demonstrations across the country as Congress intensified its campaign to highlight what it termed an attack on constitutional values. The party vowed to continue its agitation until their demands for an apology and Shah’s resignation were met.
