Agartala: Dec 22: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed great satisfaction with the rehabilitation of 38,000 Bru tribe members from the Reang community during his visit to Dhalai district, Tripura. This rehabilitation, made possible by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was initiated as per a 2020 agreement, with efforts focused on the Haduk Lau Para area. On Sunday, Amit Shah, accompanied by Tripura’s Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, MP Pratiti Singh, and other officials, reviewed the progress of the rehabilitation and inaugurated six new projects in Dhalai district. The total cost of 13 new projects, including those inaugurated and those for which the foundation stones were laid, amounted to Rs. 668.39 crore.
Shah highlighted the long struggles of the Bru tribe, who had faced severe hardships for 25 years, lacking basic amenities like sanitation, education, and clean water. Under the previous Communist Party rule, they were neglected. However, after the BJP government took power, significant steps were taken to address their needs. The central and state governments provided accommodation for 40,000 Bru refugees, along with improved education, employment, and special provisions for women. Shah also mentioned that the refugees would receive a Rs. 5,000 monthly grant for 24 months.
Reflecting on the state’s transformation, Shah recalled his visit to Tripura in 2017 when BJP had minimal presence, with only six people at his meeting. Today, he praised the development under the BJP government, including access to clean drinking water, electricity in remote areas, and better educational facilities, which have boosted the state’s literacy rate. Shah thanked Chief Minister Manik Saha, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, and party workers for their contributions to this progress.
