Agartala, December 17: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) staged a protest in Agartala on Tuesday against the alleged removal of the historic photograph of Pakistan’s surrender to India during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War from Indian Army headquarters.
Raising slogans in praise of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, the IYC members demanded the immediate reinstatement of the iconic photo.
Protesters carried placards reading “Modi Ji Stop Rewriting History, Restore 1971 Legacy” and displayed copies of the surrender image to highlight their demand.
Neelkamal Saha, Tripura state president of IYC, who led the demonstration, alleged that there is a deliberate attempt to alter India’s history.
“The removal of this historic photograph is part of a conspiracy to prevent the youth from learning the truth. We demand the photo be restored to its rightful place,” he said.
The protest followed Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s statement in the Lok Sabha on Monday during Zero Hour. She claimed that the photograph depicting Pakistan’s surrender was removed from Army headquarters on the same day as Vijay Diwas, which marks India’s victory over Pakistan and the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
Vijay Diwas is observed annually on December 16 to commemorate this historic triumph. Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks in Parliament have triggered widespread reactions, with the Congress demanding action to restore the photo.
