Agartala, December 6:
The 69th death anniversary of Dr. B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was commemorated with great reverence in Agartala on Friday.
The event took place at the premises of Tripura’s old Assembly and the state museum Ujjayanta Palace, where dignitaries and citizens gathered to pay floral tributes to Ambedkar’s bust.
The programme, organized by the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department, saw the participation of Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Sabhadhipati of Zilla Parishad West Tripura district Balai Goswami, and senior officials.
Speaking to reporters in the sidelines of the programme, Minister Sudhangshu Das emphasized the importance of remembering Dr. Ambedkar’s unparalleled contributions to India’s socio-political landscape.
“Dr. Ambedkar was not just the founder of India’s Constitution but also a social reformer, educator, and politician whose work uplifted marginalized communities. It is essential for the younger generation to understand the transformative role he played in shaping modern India,” he stated.
Earlier in the day, a large number of school students participated in a procession showcasing banners and posters highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s life and contributions.
The procession culminated at Ujjayanta Palace, where students joined the tribute ceremony.
The event also featured a cultural programme aimed at educating attendees about Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and his efforts to ensure constitutional rights for all citizens.
