Agartala: Nov 26: A woman was arrested on Tuesday for selling brown sugar under the guise of selling tea. After detaining four young men from the Golap Bagan area of the capital, the police managed to nab the main mastermind, a woman involved in the brown sugar trade. The arrested woman has been identified as Uma Malakar.
Rajesh Devnath, Bishwajit Majumdar, Jaydeb Das, and Osman Mia, four young men involved in selling brown sugar procured from her in various parts of Agartala city, were arrested by the police. However, a few brown sugar sellers managed to escape from the scene. The Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer informed that based on a tip-off, the East Agartala police conducted a raid in the Golap Bagan area of the capital on Tuesday. They managed to arrest four young men from there. The police recovered 36 grams of brown sugar from them. Upon preliminary interrogation, the police learned that they had purchased the brown sugar from a woman and were selling it at a higher price. The police then raided the woman’s tea shop.
The East Agartala police arrested the woman and seized an additional 95 grams of brown sugar and Rs. 16,000 in cash. The police also recovered three mobile phones, a bike, and other items from the five arrested individuals. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer further stated that the names of those who fled the scene have come to the police’s attention. The police are trying to apprehend them quickly. Now it remains to be seen whether the police can nab the entire gang. However, women are now coming to the forefront. After the recent arrest of a young woman involved in selling brown sugar in the Laxminarayan Temple area of the capital, another woman has been arrested on Tuesday. All of them are aged between 20 and 30. The police’s initial assumption is that they are very cleverly involved in such incidents in the city.
