Agartala, October 30: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has officially declared its intention to contest the upcoming Village Council elections alongside its alliance partners, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) and Tipra Motha.
This unified stance among the three coalition partners marks a continued commitment to alliance-led governance in the state, which began with their joint efforts in the last parliamentary election.
Tripura BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee confirmed this decision on Wednesday while speaking to reporters at a Kali Puja and Diwali cloth distribution event held at a local club in Agartala. Bhattacharjee emphasized that the alliance has gained public acceptance, with recent election results reflecting the people’s endorsement of this united front.
“We are going to fight together,” Bhattacharjee stated. “Our government is an alliance of BJP, IPFT, and Tipra Motha. Before the Lok Sabha election, we worked collectively and received a strong mandate from the people. For all upcoming elections, we will discuss and move forward as a united front.”
The state BJP president attributed the public’s continued support to the alliance’s track record of development across Tripura, noting that this momentum has spurred significant interest in BJP membership throughout the state.
Bhattacharjee, also a Member of Parliament, shared that the BJP is on track to meet its target of enrolling 12 lakh new members. To date, the ongoing membership drive has seen eight lakh registrations completed online, with an additional two lakh members joining through offline efforts.
Bhattacharjee took the opportunity to criticize the opposition parties, asserting that they lack a constructive agenda and do not resonate with the public.
“People have witnessed the massive development brought by the BJP-led government and are eager to become a part of it,” he remarked, underscoring that the widespread response to the membership drive reflects the party’s growing appeal among the citizens.
With the three-party alliance preparing to contest the Village Council elections as a cohesive unit, the stage is set for a test of the alliance’s influence in rural governance and its ability to mobilize grassroots support across Tripura.
