Agartala, October 25: In response to recent remarks by TIPRA Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma regarding communal violence and corruption in Tripura and against which he urged his party supporters and leaders to raise voice, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee expressed willingness to engage in dialogue with Debbarma to address his concerns.
Debbarma, who leads BJP’s alliance partner TIPRA Motha, recently in social media had called on his supporters and leaders to actively voice their opposition to alleged injustices in the state.
Bhattacharjee, who took office as a Rajya Sabha MP just recently, acknowledged the occurrence of isolated incidents in Tripura but emphasized that the frequency and severity of such events have decreased under the current BJP-led administration compared to previous Left Front regimes.
“In a democracy, everyone has the right to express their views, and we welcome that. Regarding what Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has alleged, I am willing to sit down with him and resolve the issues through constructive dialogue,” Bhattacharjee stated.
Highlighting the BJP government’s commitment to law and order, Bhattacharjee pointed out that the current administration has demonstrated a firm stance on dealing with perpetrators, regardless of their political affiliation—contrasting with past practices in the state, where political biases often influenced legal proceedings.
He viewed that the present government does not spare perpetrators based on political affiliations, a marked shift from earlier regimes.
Bhattacharjee’s comments follow Debbarma’s recent live address on social media, in which he refuted claims that TIPRA Motha has compromised its values by joining hands with the BJP.
Debbarma clarified that his party’s ministers are in the government to advocate for justice and development for the tribal communities rather than to support BJP policies unconditionally.
He has frequently criticized the BJP government’s approach to addressing tribal issues, including unfulfilled promises related to “Greater Tipraland,” an autonomous region Debbarma has been championing for tribal rights.
Responding to Debbarma’s allegations of corruption and rising communal tensions, Bhattacharjee argued that while no government can guarantee absolute prevention of incidents, the BJP administration has taken significant strides to ensure swift action against those responsible.
He acknowledged that issues still persist, but stressed the government’s proactive approach in investigating and prosecuting offenders, aiming to foster a safer and more inclusive environment for all communities.
