Agartala, Aug 01: Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chowdhury, accompanied by Left leaders, visited the residence of Parameshwar Reang, who was killed in Gandachara. They spoke with the family members of the deceased and expressed their condolences.The delegation also interacted with the families in the refugee camp, who were rendered homeless in the violence incident.
The CPI(M) MLA and also the leader of opposition Jitendra Choudhury alleged of mismanagement by the government over tackling the homeless families and said, “The government is so negligent that it failed to ensure basic amenities for the distressed families, who are reeling under acute crisis presently in the refugee camp.”
“No proper electricity service, drinking water facilities and mosquito nets were provided to the distressed families in the refugee camp. Most shockingly children, who are with their families in the refugee camp are facing hazard due to improper arrangements made by the government,” he told reporters during his visit on Thursday.
“This tragic event unfolded under the BJP’s watch, and they must be held accountable,” he said, adding that the government has failed to tackle the situation in Gandacherra, following which the innocent distressed families are struggling.
Choudhury also demanded for an impartial enquiry into the incident and said, “There is a need of proper enquiry into the incident so that the culprits are nabbed. 165 families are currently living in dire conditions in relief camps, lacking basic necessities.”
He also expressed his concern over the role of police administration and said, “Despite my several requests to the police before the incident of vandalization and burning of houses, no proper action was initiated by the police administration to ensure adequate police force in Gandacherra”.
