Agartala, July 26:On the basis of specific input that two Indian touts were coming to the Agartala rail station, the Government Railway Police (GRP), jointly with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and other security agencies, laid an ambush in plain clothes at the Agartala rail station and detained them on Thursday afternoon, said Tapas Das, officer in charge of the GRP station here.
He added that both were later arrested as they were wanted in connection to a case at the GRP station for facilitating Bangladeshi infiltrators to illegally cross the border and travel to other states, which was revealed during the interrogation of arrested infiltrators.
Today, both were produced in court in Agartala with a plea for police remand for further interrogation.
The touts have been identified as Biblab Karmakar (35) alias Kalu of Chanipur under Sidhai police station in West Tripura district and Bishal Datta (22) of South Golaghati under Takarjala police station in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
Only a day ago, a Bangladeshi tout was also arrested by the GRP from Agartala’s bordering Joynagar area in connection to the infiltration of four Bangladeshi nationals three days earlier.
It may be added that with the arrest of two more Indian touts two days ago by the Amtali police, a total of five touts, both Indian and Bangladeshi, have been arrested in the last three days.
The security forces have cracked down on the touts who facilitate illegal border crossings to stop infiltration from the roots, which is a growing concern.
Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested more than 20 touts from various parts of Tripura.
