Agartala: July 16: Late Monday night, a fire broke out at the Sadar Bazar in Gandachhera sub-division, reducing three shops to ashes. Local traders have been protesting, alleging sabotage, while the Dhalai district magistrate maintains that the fire resulted from a short circuit. The administration’s claims have left traders unconvinced, leading to the market’s closure.
A BJP delegation, including a minister and MLA, visited Gandachhera to normalize the situation. Despite facing protests, they assured affected individuals of necessary compensation. At the sub-divisional magistrate’s office, they appealed for peace and safety.
Upon their return from Gandachhera, three shops in the market were gutted by fire, reigniting tensions. Local traders, who had previously overseen market security, blame the administration. Despite assurances that police security would suffice, the strict measures resulted in the shops’ destruction. A trader emphasized the timely arrival of fire engines to prevent further damage.
The Dhalai district magistrate’s official statement is still pending, leaving the situation tense and uncertain.
