Agartala: July 06: In Tripura, the Congress party has announced its intention to contest the upcoming Panchayat elections independently. MLA Sudeep Roy Barman emphasized the need for a healthy environment in all panchayats across the state. The decision was made during an organizational meeting held today in Agartala, where leaders from various branch organizations of the Congress participated. Ashish Kumar Saha, addressing the gathering, revealed that the state election commission would announce the election date within the next two days. Saha also raised concerns about the previous elections, stating that 46 percent of Congress candidates were unable to submit their nominations, resulting in BJP candidates winning unopposed. The Congress has requested online nomination submission measures, but the Election Commission has yet to make a decision. Saha further highlighted the spread of corruption in panchayats due to the uncontested victories of BJP candidates last year. In light of this, he called for free, fair, and fear-free Panchayat elections. MLA Sudip Roy Barman echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the Congress’s determination to fight with single strength. Despite obstacles, he expressed hope for positive results in some RD blocks within the state.
