Agartala, June 17: Thousands of Muslims from across Tripura gathered at Gedu Mia Masjid in Agartala to offer morning prayers on Eid-ul-Azha.
The prayers, led by Imam Maulana Abdul Rehaman, began after 8 AM.
The atmosphere was one of unity and celebration as Muslims exchanged greetings and embraced, spreading messages of peace and love to people of all religions.
Eid al-Adha, also known as Kurbani Eid, commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son following a divine command.
“Islam teaches the message of sacrifice. This celebration of Eid is fundamentally about sacrifice. Those who are financially able are expected to slaughter an animal and distribute the meat to the poor and relatives and keep one third of the share for self. However, true sacrifice involves giving up pride, ego, hatred, and all bad habits along with the animal,” said Maulana Abdul Rehaman, chief cleric of the mosque.
He expressed hope that the festival would spread the message of love and further strengthen unity in diversity.
Muslims worldwide celebrate this historical event with great enthusiasm and respect.
On the day each capable Muslim family sacrifices an animal, as prescribed in the Holy Koran, and distributes the meat to the poor, also making donations to various institutions, particularly orphanages and homes for the elderly.
