He added that both were arrested and identified as Karan Debbarma and Priya Debbarma, residents of Khowai district, Tripura.
Initial interrogation revealed that they had boarded the train from Dharmanagar.
The GRP has charged them under the Arms Act for possessing illegal firearms and is continuing the investigation to determine the origin and intended destination of the weapon.
The police also seized their mobile phones and are working to apprehend other members of the arms smuggling network.
Both suspects will be produced in court with a request for police custody to facilitate further interrogation.
