Agartala, May 21: A Bangladeshi citizen and an Indian tout who facilitated his border crossing and transportation to Delhi were arrested at Agartala railway station just minutes before they were about to board a train, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official reported on Tuesday. In a separate incident, another Indian tout was also apprehended.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the GRP station at Agartala railway station, detailed the operation: “Based on specific intelligence about infiltrators planning to travel on the weekly Tejas Rajdhani Express to New Delhi, GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers were alerted at all entry points and platforms yesterday. Shortly before the train’s departure in the evening, we noticed two individuals behaving suspiciously. Upon detaining and interrogating them, it was revealed that one was a Bangladeshi citizen and the other an Indian who had arranged his transportation.”
The individuals were identified as Khurshid Alam, an Indian resident from North Tripura, and Karim Mulla from Chittagong, Bangladesh. Both were planning to travel to Delhi.
They have been arrested under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Foreigners Act, and the Passport Act, and have been presented in court with a request for police custody to further investigate their network.
Additionally, in a similar incident, another Indian tout aiding in infiltration was arrested by the GRP yesterday and has also been forwarded to court with a request for police remand.
These arrests highlight ongoing efforts to curb illegal infiltration and the facilitation networks aiding such activities in the region.
